Ribosomes are the primary site for protein synthesis in the cell. They are composed of a small and a large subunit. Ribosomes bind to mRNA and facilitate the assembly of amino acids into a polypeptide chain. They are found free in the cytoplasm or attached to the endoplasmic reticulum, forming rough ER. Ribosomes are of two types: 70S in prokaryotes and 80S in eukaryotes. In contrast, lysosomes are involved in waste digestion, the nuclear envelope surrounds the nucleus, and the plasma membrane forms the cell boundary.
