What is compression in a sound wave?

ExplanationAnswer and explanation

Answer: (C) A region of higher air density

Compression in a sound wave is the region where the air particles come closer together, so the density and pressure of the air there are higher.
The region where the air particles are spread apart and the density and pressure are lower is called rarefaction.
Sound is a longitudinal wave, which travels in the form of compressions and rarefactions.
Sound cannot travel through a vacuum.
