Why are winter monsoon winds dry in India?
ExplanationAnswer and explanation
Answer: (B) They originate over land and lack moisture
Winter monsoon winds in India are dry because they blow from the land (the north-western continental high pressure region) towards the sea and lack moisture.
They are called the north-east monsoon.
While passing over the Bay of Bengal they pick up moisture and cause rainfall on the Tamil Nadu coast.
The summer south-west monsoon comes from the sea, so it is moist.
