ExplanationAnswer and explanation
Answer: (A) Granting pardons under State jurisdiction
Under Article 161, the Governor has the power to grant pardons, reprieves, remissions, etc. in respect of offences relating to matters to which the executive power of the State extends.
Article 72 gives the same power to the President, and it extends to death sentences and to sentences by court-martial as well.
The Governor cannot pardon a death sentence, but he can suspend, remit or commute it.
