ऑक्सीजन (O₂) एक तत्व (element) है, क्योंकि यह केवल एक ही प्रकार के परमाणुओं से बना है। स्टील मिश्रधातु (alloy) है, कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड और जल यौगिक (compounds) हैं, जिनमें दो या अधिक तत्व निश्चित अनुपात में जुड़े होते हैं।
स्टील मुख्यतः आयरन और कार्बन का मिश्रण (mixture) है।
