What happens to a ray of light that passes through the principal focus of a convex lens after refraction?

ExplanationAnswer and explanation

Answer: (A) It emerges parallel to the principal axis.

A ray of light that passes through the principal focus of a convex lens emerges parallel to the principal axis after refraction.
This is the reverse of the rule in which a ray coming parallel to the principal axis passes through the principal focus after refraction.
Related fact: a ray passing through the optical centre goes straight without deviation.
A convex lens is a converging lens, whereas a concave lens is a diverging lens.
Convex lenses are used in cameras, microscopes and telescopes, and in correcting long-sightedness.
