The following sentence has been divided into parts. One of them contains an error. The parts are given as options with some changes. Select the option that correctly rectifies the error.

She is having / such an acute / respiratory infection that / she could not breathe properly.

Answer और ExplanationAnswer and explanation

Answer: (D) She had

Concept (Stative Verb 'Have' and Tense Agreement) के अनुसार जब 'have' अधिकार या अवस्था के अर्थ में प्रयुक्त हो (यहाँ बीमारी होना), तो वह Stative Verb की तरह व्यवहार करता है और Continuous Tense (अपूर्ण काल) में नहीं आता। वाक्य का दूसरा भाग 'could not breathe' अतीत में है, इसलिए पहले भाग में भी अतीत काल आवश्यक है।
अतः 'She is having' के स्थान पर 'She had' होगा।
Examiner का trap: 'is having' को सामान्य Continuous समझ लेना ही इसका trap है; यहाँ 'have' अवस्था का भाव देता है।
Concept (Stative Verb 'Have' and Tense Agreement): when 'have' means possession or a state (here, having an illness), it behaves as a stative verb and is not used in the continuous tense. The second part of the sentence, 'could not breathe', is in the past, so the first part also needs a past tense.
So 'She is having' should be 'She had'.
✓ Correct sentence: She had such an acute respiratory infection that she could not breathe properly.
Exam trap: reading 'is having' as an ordinary continuous form; here 'have' is a state and the second part requires the past tense.
