Ramanuja (1017–1137 CE) was a great South Indian Vaishnava saint and philosopher. He is considered the founder of Vishishtadvaita Vedanta. Ramanuja was deeply influenced by the Alvar saints, who were devotees of Lord Vishnu and composed the Divya Prabandham in Tamil. The devotional tradition of the Alvars profoundly shaped Ramanuja's philosophy. Digambara is related to Jainism, Mahayana is a branch of Buddhism, and Nayanars were devotees of Shiva. Hence, the Alvars had the greatest influence on Ramanuja, as they were the main source of the Vaishnava bhakti tradition.
