Dry यानी सूखा, जहाँ पानी तक न हो। ज्वार उतरने पर नाव ऊँचे सूखे किनारे पर फँस जाती है, हिल भी नहीं सकती। जिसे high and dry छोड़ दिया, उसे बिना support के छोड़ दिया।
Dry means without water. Picture a boat left high on the dry shore when the tide goes out: it cannot move. A person left high and dry is left without any support.
