Idiom / PhraseSSC PYQ × 12To become difficult to control
हाथ से निकल जाना
The situation got out of hand in the ninth minute.

गाँव-देहात में कहते हैं 'बच्चा हाथ से निकल गया है'। जब कोई situation हाथ से निकल जाए, तो उसे पकड़ना या control करना मुश्किल हो जाता है। यानी get out of hand = क़ाबू से बाहर हो जाना।
In villages people say 'bachcha haath se nikal gaya hai' (the child has slipped out of our hands). When a situation slips out of your hand, you can no longer hold or control it, so getting out of hand means becoming difficult to control.
कई बार पूछा गया; answer 'to become difficult to control'। Rein in उल्टा है, और इसे eat out of someone's hand (पूरी तरह किसी के कहे पर चलना) से mix मत कीजिए।
Asked many times; the answer is 'to become difficult to control'. Rein in is the opposite, and do not confuse it with eat out of someone's hand (to obey them fully).
