Fall यानी गिरना, flat यानी एकदम चित। जो joke या plan fall flat हो जाए, वह ज़मीन पर चित पड़ा है, कोई impression नहीं बना। यानी कोई effect नहीं पड़ा।
Fall means to drop; flat means lying straight on the ground. A joke or plan that falls flat lands on the floor and makes no impression at all. It fails to have an effect.
