AUTO यानी स्वयं (automatic machine ख़ुद चलती है) और ‘-cracy’ यानी शासन (जैसे democracy में)। Autocracy यानी एक व्यक्ति का अपनी मर्ज़ी से शासन — पूरी ताक़त उसी के हाथ।
