The Atal Tunnel is situated in Himachal Pradesh, below the Rohtang Pass. It connects Manali with the Lahaul-Spiti valley (Sissu), and it is about 9 km long. It was inaugurated on 3 October 2020.
It is counted among the longest highway tunnels in the world built at an altitude above 10,000 feet.
It is named after the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The Sela Tunnel of Arunachal Pradesh (on the Tawang route) was dedicated to the nation in March 2024.
