Which of the following options best describes the texture of desert soils in India?

ExplanationAnswer and explanation

Answer: (D) Sandy to gravelly

The texture of desert soils in India ranges from sandy to gravelly. They contain little humus and moisture and high amounts of salts, so they are not very fertile without irrigation.
Desert soils are found mainly in western Rajasthan.
Farming has become possible on this soil in the irrigated areas of the Indira Gandhi Canal.
Bajra, jowar and other coarse grains are grown on this soil.
Clayey soil is a feature of black soil, whereas loamy soil is considered suitable for alluvial soil.
