अनुच्छेद 6 (Article 6)4 के अनुसार उपराष्ट्रपति राज्य सभा (Council of States) का पदेन सभापति (ex officio Chairman) होता है और वह लाभ (profit) का कोई अन्य पद धारण नहीं करेगा।
अनुच्छेद (Article) 63 उपराष्ट्रपति के पद का, अनुच्छेद 65 राष्ट्रपति (President) के पद में आकस्मिक रिक्ति में उसके कार्य निर्वहन का और अनुच्छेद 66 उसके निर्वाचन का उपबंध करता है।
उपराष्ट्रपति का कार्यकाल पाँच वर्ष होता है।
