Answer: (A) When the office falls vacant or the President is unable to act
उपराष्ट्रपति राष्ट्रपति (President) के कार्यों का निर्वहन तब करता है जब राष्ट्रपति का पद रिक्त हो (मृत्यु, त्यागपत्र या निष्कासन से) या राष्ट्रपति अनुपस्थिति, बीमारी अथवा अन्य कारण से कार्य करने में असमर्थ हो (अनुच्छेद 65)।
रिक्ति की स्थिति में उपराष्ट्रपति अधिकतम छह माह तक कार्यवाहक राष्ट्रपति रहता है, तब तक नया राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित होना आवश्यक है।
इस दौरान वह राज्यसभा के सभापति के कर्तव्यों का निर्वहन नहीं करता।
प्रधानमंत्री (Prime Minister) के अनुरोध पर ऐसा नहीं होता।
The Vice-President discharges the functions of the President when the office of the President falls vacant (due to death, resignation or removal) or when the President is unable to act owing to absence, illness or any other cause (Article 65).
In case of a vacancy, the Vice-President acts as President for a maximum of six months, within which a new President must be elected.
During this period he does not perform the duties of the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
The Vice-President does not act as President at the request of the Prime Minister.
