Why is the Indian Ocean Region critical in global geopolitics?
ExplanationAnswer and explanation
Answer: (B) A very large share of global oil trade passes through its sea lanes
The Indian Ocean Region is vital because its sea lanes of communication carry a very large share of world trade, especially energy. A major part of the world's seaborne oil passes through Indian Ocean choke points such as the Strait of Hormuz, Bab-el-Mandeb and the Strait of Malacca. It is not the birthplace of democracy, not the least militarised zone and not under UN control.
