नरम लोहे (soft iron) की कोर पर लिपटी हुई धारावाही कुंडली (current-carrying coil) को विद्युत चुंबक (Electromagnet) कहते हैं। कुंडली में धारा बहने पर कोर चुंबकीय हो जाती है और धारा बंद करते ही उसका चुंबकत्व (magnetism) लगभग समाप्त हो जाता है।
बिना कोर की लंबी धारावाही कुंडली Solenoid कहलाती है; ‘Solenoid battery’ कोई मानक शब्द नहीं है।
