मानक पाठ्य-पुस्तकों के अनुसार असहयोग (non-cooperation)-खिलाफ़त आंदोलन जनवरी 1921 में आरंभ हुआ। खिलाफ़त समिति ने 1 अगस्त 1920 को असहयोग का आरंभ किया था, कलकत्ता के विशेष कांग्रेस अधिवेशन (सितंबर 1920) ने कार्यक्रम को स्वीकृति दी और नागपुर अधिवेशन (दिसंबर 1920) ने उसकी पुष्टि की, जिसके बाद जनवरी 1921 से आंदोलन व्यापक रूप से फैला। चौरी-चौरा की घटना के बाद गांधीजी ने फ़रवरी 1922 में इसे वापस ले लिया।
Standard textbook accounts state that the Non-Cooperation-Khilafat Movement began in January 1921. The Khilafat Committee had launched non-cooperation on 1 August 1920, a special Congress session at Calcutta (September 1920) approved the programme, and the Nagpur session (December 1920) confirmed it, after which the movement spread widely from January 1921. It was withdrawn by Gandhi in February 1922 after the Chauri Chaura incident.
