A filament lamp shows deviation from Ohm's law because of:

ExplanationAnswer and explanation

Answer: (B) Temperature change

Why
Ohm's law holds only if the temperature remains constant. In a filament lamp the current heats the tungsten filament to very high temperature, its resistance rises, and so V/I does not stay constant. The V–I graph bends.
Why not the others
•
(A) High voltage alone does not break the law; a thermostat-controlled resistor stays ohmic at high voltage.
•
(C) High resistance is not a reason; many high-resistance conductors are ohmic.
•
(D) 'None of these' is wrong because temperature is the cause.
Around this question
•
Non-ohmic devices: filament lamp, diode, transistor, thermistor, electrolytes.
•
For metals, resistance rises with temperature; for semiconductors, it falls.
•
Ohmic conductors have a straight-line V–I graph through the origin.
•
A thermistor is a resistor whose resistance changes strongly with temperature.
