Why are estuaries more common along the Western Coastal Plain than along the Eastern Coastal Plain?

ExplanationAnswer and explanation

Answer: (C) West-flowing rivers carry comparatively lower sediment loads.

The rivers of the Western Coastal Plain are relatively short and steep, and carry a comparatively smaller amount of sediment. They meet the sea by forming estuaries, whereas the rivers of the eastern coast deposit more sediment and form deltas.
The Narmada and the Tapi flow westwards and form estuaries.
On the eastern coast are the deltas of the Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri.
The western rivers flow over steep gradients through rift valleys, so they do not form deltas.
